Button cell is named after the shape and size of a button, and is a kind of micro battery, mainly used in portable electric products with low working voltage and small power consumption, such as electronic watches, calculators, hearing aids, electronic thermometers and pedometers. The traditional button battery is a disposable battery, there are silver oxide battery, peroxide silver button battery, hammer button battery, alkaline manganese button battery, mercury button battery, etc.. The following is to understand the types and models of button batteries.
A. The types and models of button batteries
There are many types of button batteries, most of which are named after the materials used, such as silver oxide batteries, button batteries, alkaline manganese batteries and so on. Here are a few common button batteries.
1. Silver oxide battery
The button battery has a long service life, high capacity and other characteristics, the application is very widespread, its application of the largest amount of force. This kind of battery by the silver oxide as the positive electrode, zinc metal as the negative electrode, electrolyte for potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide. Electricity is generated by the chemical interaction between zinc and silver oxide. The thickness (height) of silver oxide button cell is 5.4mm, 4.2mm, 3.6mm, 2.6mm, 2.1mm, and its diameter is 11.6mm, 9.5mm, 7.9mm, 6.8mm. In the selection should be based on the size of its location, choose one of them. The commonly used models are AG1, AG2, AG3, AG1O, AG13, SR626, etc. The model AG is the Japanese standard and SR is the international standard model.
2. Silver peroxide button battery
The battery and silver oxide button battery structure is basically the same, the main difference is the battery anode (glen) made of silver peroxide.
The battery has high energy density, good storage performance, small self-discharge, long life and other characteristics. The shortcoming is the battery’s internal resistance is large. The positive electrode of the battery is made of manganese dioxide or iron disulfide as raw material, the negative electrode is hammer, and its electrolyte is organic. Li/MnO type hammer battery nominal voltage is 2.8V, Li (CF) n type hammer battery nominal voltage is 3V.
The battery has a large capacity, excellent low-temperature performance, the materials used are cheap and less expensive, and can meet the requirements of continuous discharge at higher currents. The shortcoming is that the energy density is not enough, the discharge voltage is not smooth. The battery’s positive electrode with manganese dioxide, the negative electrode with zinc, electrolyte with potassium hydroxide, the nominal voltage of 1.5V.
5. Mercury button cell
Also known as mercury batteries, which can be used in high temperature conditions, long-term storage, smooth discharge voltage, good mechanical properties. But its low-temperature characteristics are not good. The positive terminal of the battery is mercury, the negative terminal is zinc, the electrolyte can be potassium hydroxide, you can also use sodium hydroxide. Its nominal voltage is 1.35V.
B. How to identify the type of button cells
Button cell batteries are used in many places, especially on some small and delicate parts, for example, our common watch battery is a silver oxide button cell, the voltage of the new battery is usually between 1.55V and 1.58V, and the shelf life of the battery is 3 years. The shelf life of a new battery is 3 years. The operating time of a well-running watch is usually not less than 2 years. The Swiss silver oxide coin cell is type 3## and the Japanese type is usually SR SW, or SR W (# represents an Arabic numeral). There is another kind of coin cell is lithium batteries, the model number of lithium coin cell batteries is usually CR #. Different materials of the button battery, its model specifications are different. From the above we can understand that the button battery model number contains a lot of information about the button battery, usually button battery model name in front of the English letters indicate the type of battery, and the first two with the Arabic numerals behind the diameter and the last two represent the thickness, usually the diameter of the button battery from 4.8mm to 30mm thickness from 1.0mm to 7.7mm, applicable to many They are suitable for power supply of many products, such as computer motherboards, electronic watches, electronic dictionaries, electronic scales, memory cards, remote controls, electric toys, etc.
